EU should act on homophobic human rights threats – Ludford  »  Liberal Democrats for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equality
The European Parliament has called in a resolution for the European Commission to examine and challenge proposed legislation in Lithuania which would criminalise with fines the 'promotion' of homosexuality. MEPs have long followed developments in this Baltic country which joined the EU in 2004; it lags way behind in the narrow intolerance of its discourse on sexual orientation, despite having to implement EU anti-discrimination laws. Sarah Ludford, vice-chair of LGBT Liberal Democrats, Liberal Democrat European justice & human rights spokeswoman, London MEP, and an active member of the European Parliament lesbian & gay rights intergroup, spoke in the debate. She said: "Coming ...

LGBT+ Liberal Democrats site blocking  »  Liberal Democrats for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equality
LGBT+ Liberal Democrats are clearly concerned at reports our web site is being falsely blocked and labelled as "pornographic" for some UK internet users. We understand the Internet Service Provider concerned are now investigating the issue. We have long campaigned against internet filters of this sort as they are likely to have a disproportionate effect on vulnerable groups, including LGBT+ folk. Today's news validates this concern, particularly as other sites such as LGBTfriend, BishUK, Edinburgh Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre and Sexual Abuse Scotland have also been affected. Sarah Brown, an LGBT+ executive member who spoke against filters at the party's ...

Northern Ireland want marriage equality too  »  Liberal Democrats for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equality
Today while we celebrate same-sex marriages taking place in England and Wales let us not forget that there are places in the UK where those marriages will not be recognised as such, and where the path to marriage equality still has a long way to go. Yesterday evening seven hours before those same sex marriages became legal a group gathered outside city hall in Belfast to highlight the fact that they are continually being overlooked by one section of Northern Ireland's politicians. Some of the chants that went up will be familiar to campaigners the world over such as "What do ...
