For the past few years, the nation's most mainstream "ex-gay" group, Exodus International, has run a statement distancing themselves from the work of the pillow-beating, children's book-writing, formerly-and-possibly-still Moon-connected fringe activist Richard Cohen. It read like so:
Exodus International does not endorse the work of Richard Cohen or the methods utilized in his practice. Some of the techniques Mr. Cohen employs could be detrimental to an individual's understanding of healthy relational boundaries and disruptive to the psychological and emotional development of men and women seeking clinical counsel and aid.
Now, however, ...
Last night, we received this comment from recent high school graduate Caleb Smith:
Which is really just an atrocity. I mean, no comma after "all"? These are two separate thoughts which, even in an informal web comment, really should be set off in some way.
Shape up, Caleb! College is going to be tough if you don't come out and embrace Marks, both of the punctuation and gay varieties.

The American Family Association, the anti-gay group that's currently burning up the news for changing the "Gay"-ness of various athletes, yesterday sent this announcement to everyone on their email list:
Now, considering the "pro-family" group has been lashing out against the fast food emporium because one of the company's executives, Richard Ellis, is supporting the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), we can't help but believe this announcement will have something to do with the company's perceived gay-friendliness. But what, exactly, is the AFA cooking up? Well we have some possibilities:
-They'll demand ...
San Francisco mayor and gay rights hero Gavin Newsom has officially filed papers to form an exploratory committee for a possible 2010 gubernatorial run:
Mayor Newsom wants to move on up to the governor's place [SF Chron]
In reaction to the news, California social conservatives have officially begun exploring Nevada and Oregon.

Last month, we saw the Campaign for Children and Families compare those county clerks who have to perform same-sex marriages with Nazi officers who were forced to "gas the jews." Now CCF's head CCF-er, Randy Thomasson, is continuing his penchant for comparing widely dissimilar things, juxtaposing "change we can believe in" with "similarity we are lucky to have (almost) gotten through the first time around":
“Despite his claims that he believes marriage is only for a man and a woman, Barack Obama is promising to destroy marriage protection in our nation and to oppose protecting marriage licenses for a ...
Apparently feeling she hasn't fully enough connected her political legacy to anti-gay bias through her introduction of a federal gay marriage amendment in both 2003 and 2006, congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) has now signed on as a co-sponsor of the latest version of the proposed ban:
Musgrave re-enters gay marriage debate [Coloradoan]
Because apparently Marilyn believes in the "if it's totally broken, still don't fix it" style of policy-making.
But will this reinvestment in this tired, overwrought issue hurt Musgrave's chances for re-election in the fall, where she faces a formidable challenge from Democrat Betsy Markey? Well, that ...
Did the typically gay-supportive NAACP allow the pro-"ex-gay" PFOX (Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays) group to exhibit at its 2006 convention? Yes, according to newly-released information that's been obtained by Ex Gay Watch:
NAACP Appreciates PFOX Participation, Invites Them Back [XGW]
Yes, that's right -- a group that (a) eschews the opinion of credible experts, instead using their own faith-based opinions to try and "convert" gays into "ex-gays", and (b) resists the equal rights of those gays who refuse to "change," was apparently allowed to set up shop at the convention of a group whose sole ...
Speaking on the subject of a federal constitutional marriage amendment that he's championing, One News Now quotes Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker as saying:
"Frankly, the American people are so overwhelmingly in support of a constitutional amendment prohibiting same-sex marriage that I think it draws a clear distinction in an election year between two basic worldviews," ... "And I think it's an appropriate thing to introduce, if for no other reason than to have a national debate."

"This concept that constitutions are living, breathing documents which change as popular sentiment changes over time -- that's not my interpretation of the Constitution"
We reply:

On yesterday's edition of "Meet The Press," California Gov. Arnold Scharzenegger reiterated his opposition to a proposed gay marriage ban. Asked if he supports the measure by interim anchor Tom Brokaw, the GOP governor replied:
"No, not at all. As a matter of fact, I think the Supreme Court made a decision there. It was apparently unconstitutional to stop anyone from getting married. It's like 1948, the interracial marriage, when the Supreme Court of California has, you know, decided it was unconstitutional and then later on the Supreme Court of the United States followed, I think 10 or 12 ...
At Sunday's gay pride festival in Wichita, KS, an anti-gay activist by the name of Rev. Mark Holick was arrested on suspicion of battery charges:
Preacher Arrested At Wichita Gay Pride Fest [365Gay]
And by "battery," we don't mean double A. We mean the manifestation of rage against couples that feature double penises or vaginas, which (allegedly) led him to strike a pride organizer.
This is Holick's second consecutive arrest at the Wichita event. Our theory? He wants to monopolize local handcuffs so that gays can't use them for their "wicked" sex acts.

Are we gays disabled? Such is the assertion of one mister Peter J. Wirs, who writes in a new TownHall column:
If, arguendo, gays and lesbians are subject to discrimination, there is more than adequate legal protection to prevent such discrimination, primarily through ADA, the Americans with Disability Act. (Yes, homosexuality is a disability, but this is a subject for another column).
How retro.
So where can one find the other column wherein Mr. Wirs will discuss the "disability" known as homosexuality? Well, naturally, that'll appear in the oh-so-reputable publication:
Look for the mag wherever convenient theories are sold.
Same-Sex What? by ...
Responding to last week's historic House hearing on transgender discrimination in the workplace, the reliably uncivil Andrea Lafferty has offered the following insensitive thoughts:
“Why is the House of Representatives wasting taxpayer dollars to discuss whether or not drag queens or she-males are offended because of their cross-dressing or sexual behaviors in a business environment? I already know the answer: Because liberals like Robert Andrews are aggressively promoting the normalization of cross-dressing and transsexualism in our culture”
"This freak show must come to an end – and the House of Representatives should get back to important ...
We know they despise virtually every kind of human being alive, casting to hell the vast majority of those who aren't a part of their family. But finally we've found a creature that Westboro Baptist's Phelps family does enjoy. Namely, muskrats:
Hmm. So heaven is going to be made up of Fred Phelps, God, and muskrats? Call us picky after-party attendees if you must, but we're not so sure that the eternal soiree Westboro has in mind is a bash to which we'd even want to RSVP. After all, those pesky lil' critters never did much for us in ...
Well, it seems we gloated too soon. That's because the cruel and mean-spirited anti-gay constitutional ban that the California Senate turned away on Wednesday? The one whose failure we oh-so-happily celebrated? Yea, well, that same bunch of legislators reconsidered and decided to pass the measure on Friday evening:
Arizona Senate Passes Anti-Marriage Amendment [BTB]
So that's it's -- the bill has already passed the House, so it now looks like Grand Canyon State voters will be given another chance (a previous attempt failed in '06) to let the tyranny of a majority vote write blatant discrimination ...
I, Jeremy, am delighted to learn that I've been nominated for the Brave Nation Young Activist Award (a project of the Brave New Foundation, The Nation, and Rock The Vote). If you feel like my irreverent yet unapologetic take on this whole gay vs. anti-gay "culture war" is worthy of your love, then I ask you to head over to the voting site and cast your ballot for "Hooper":

As cliché as it may sound, it really is a great honor to be recognized. Also, the closer I get to the big 3-0, ...
It's official, folks: The anti-gay ballot measure in California now has a name. The proposed constitutional amendment (or revision?) will be known as Proposition 8:
Propositions get numbers from Secretary of State's office [PolitickerCA]
Clearly, "Proposition -4 Equal Rights, Respect, the Economy, and Just About Every American Value A Decent Society Should Hold Dear" must have been taken.
Although we don't hate the number. After all, since it "just 8," we think there's a good chance it'll be too foolhardy full and hearty to swallow up equality.
***That pesky 8! It's terrorizing all kinds:
