Good news for gays who live in states where massive holes are considered tourist attractions: By a 14-11 vote, the Arizona Senate today put the kibosh on a proposal to ban same sex marriage:
Ban on same-sex marriage fails in Arizona Senate [AZ Central]
Although it's not a 100% Hallelujah, as senators did go on to vote to reconsider the measure at a future date. But let's not think about that dark, unneeded possibility for now. For now, let's obnoxiously gloat over the fact that social conserva-tremism is rapidly moving into this country's backseat, where its tireless cries of "Theocracy ...
Until recently, Bill Stewart was an openly gay marketing officer for KMart. But now Bill has left the Martha Stewart-laden lands (and a six-figure salary) behind to join up as an unpaid volunteer with Equality for All, the organized campign to defeat the proposed marriage ban in California. Washinton Blade has all the details on Stewart and his altruistic move:
Kmart exec resigns to join California marriage fight [Wash Blade]
The good news: We have an important new marriage advocate who will surely use his business acumen to help us achieve the equality we all deserve.
The bad news: ...
In reaction to the Focus on the Family head's claims that Barack Obama is following a "fruitcake" interpretation of the Bible, a coalition of pastors (including Kirbyjon Caldwell, the Texas minister who married Jenna Bush) have launched a new site called "James Dobson Doesn't Speak For Me," on which they're asking folks to pledge their non-support for the prominent religious right figure. Go join in on the fun:
James Dobson Doesn't Speak For Me
Upon hearing of the site, Jesus was heard to respond: "FINALLY! I've been wanting to start that site for years ...
Irreverent, thoughtful comedian George Carlin has received several tributes in the days since his weekend death. However, we imagine none would make the late religious extremism opponent smile more than this one:
...
...
We could make a witticism here. However, we'll defer to George, letting him speak for himself on this one:
***NOTE: The full Westboro press release/obituary can be found on their website. However, "here is a link to their site" are seven dirty words that we will never say on television (or anywhere else).

Earlier today, we filled you in on how GLAAD is upset with FX for allowing a very negative, unchallenged comment from the Family Research Council's Peter Sprigg to appear on tonight's episode of "30 Days." Well now, GayWired.com has much more on the situation. First up, a comment from FX’s VP of Public Relations (and former GLAAD staffer) Scott Seomin:
"The comments made by Peter Sprigg… show that not only do same-sex parents like Dennis and Tom face bigotry and ignorance from individuals like Kati, but that they also face discrimination and marginalization from organizations ...
The Advocate: Where's that traditional print newsmag headed in this new and forever-changed media world? Well on last night's edition of "The Agenda" on XM, incoming Editor-in-Chief Jon Barrett joined Joe Solmonese and Mary Breslauer to shed some light on what we might expect in the coming gays, months, and years. Listen in:
(If audio doesn't load for you, you can listen to it here)
Weird, we didn't hear "give Good As You a buttload of cash to write a monthly column" anywhere in there. Myst have been an oversight.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt made headlines when they vowed to not marry until gays can. But would Angelina seriously consider voting for a man who personally opposes the idea of same-sex marriage? This from Entertainment Weekly:
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Clint Eastwood is one of our most famous Republicans. Did you talk politics with him on the set?
ANGELINA JOLIE: Actually, we don't disagree as much as you'd think. I think people assume I'm a Democrat. But I'm registered independent and I'm still undecided. So I'm looking at McCain as well as Obama. Clint can teach me about things domestically and I'm more ...
According to California Majority Report, Frank Schubert, campaign manager for the gay ban-backers at ProtectMarriage.com, is vowing to be nicer than the average discriminator when he and his troops go about their undertaking of denying the equal rights of one certain subject class. Majority Report reads:
It will be a kindler, gentler campaign to ban gay marriage, Frank Schubert, who will manage the effort to approve the initiative, told a meeting of the American Association of Political Consultants in Sacramento on Monday.
Predicting it will rival the presidential race for attention, Schubert said he will run a "positive, uplifting campaign."
"There will not ...
The Mormon church is encouraging their California contingent to dedicate "means and time" to pass a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage:
LDS Church backs marriage measure on California ballot [Deseret News]
For the "time" part, the California Mormons will have to carve out some hours in their day to dedicate to the cause. For the "means," however? Well, such bitterness is already built into this cruel, unjust, dehumanizing endeavor.

The Family Research Council's Peter Sprigg is an anti-gay activist whose truth-stretches we've challenged on here a number of times (like when he suggested we should "export homosexuals from the United States"). But while we recognize that nothing Mr. Sprigg says about our lives and loves should be presented as fact, on tonight's episode of the FX series "30 Days," Sprigg will reportedly be permitted to present his faith-based notions of gay life without any real push back. This according to GLAAD, who says via press release:
During the June 24 episode [of ...
This is how Ron Prentice of ProtectMarriage.com refers to the pro-equality side for calling the legality of the California anti-gay ballot initiative into question:
“This is an act of desperation,”...“The voters deserve a chance to vote on this important issue, but our extremist opponents want to silence the voters."
We, in the most drippingly sarcastic tone we can possibly muster, reply:
"Well, if those who are staunchly against marriage equality are moderates...
...then extremists we'll just have to be. After all, we would never be 'sensible' and 'non-extremist' enough to put personal faith conviction above legality, or to dedicate our ...
And now, time for some late afternoon misrepresentations, this time courtesy of the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins (or his ghostwriter):
The clock is ticking on California's brief honeymoon with same-sex "marriage," and homosexual activists are doing everything in their power to make the court's May 15 verdict permanent. In a last-ditch effort to rob the people of their input in November, advocates of homosexual "marriage" are asking the high court to strike down the marriage protection amendment before it reaches the ballot. Using a tactic that same-sex couples test-drove in Oregon, the groups argue that the initiative "would ...
