Yesterday the Associate Press reported on a religious speech Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin gave to the Wasilla Assembly of God in June, not as a parishioner but as the the Governor of Alaska.
In some of her most disturbing comments, in the capacity as a government official and talking about state business, Palin urged ministry students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it “God’s will.”

The Republican machine and its friends in the national media had a field day over the words of Rev. Jeremiah Wright. The 24-hour news cycle blasted Sen. Barrack Obama for attending Rev. Wright’s church, but will this same media look into the insults coming from the pulpit of the church Gov. Sarah Palin attends?
The speaker at Palin’s church was David Brickner, the executive director of Jews for Jesus. Palin was sitting in the church at the time Brickner was speaking on an issue that many faithful Jews find repugnant.

The Republican Mormon white guy Mitt Romney told NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell tonight that he thinks Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama is “well-spoken.”
Mitchell was talking with Romney moments after he delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis.
Republicans use the phrase “well-spoken” when describing African Americans who don’t fall into the politically incorrect definition of ‘negro.’
Keep in mind that it was Romney who stood among a small group of black folks for a fast photo-op and uttered the uncomfortable phrase, “who let the dogs out… who who” in classic uncomfortable white guy fashion.

The 6 pm broadcast featured a story by reporter Ysabel Bilbao who teased earlier that she spoke to people “on both sides of the isle,” indicating she had a balanced story. Well, guess what? It was clearly tilted to the right and not centered or balanced.

Del Martin, a lesbian activist and pioneer for more than a half a century died yesterday at the age of 87. With her wife, Phylis Lyon, at her bedside, Martin passed away as a result of complications related to a broken arm she sustained two weeks ago.

On this Date in 2007, The Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call reported that Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, was arrested June 11 by a plainclothes officer investigating complaints of lewd conduct in a Minneapolis airport restroom.

Sen. John McCain thinks it’s funny to crack jokes about his old age, but it is no laughing matter. The Republican presidential candidate is at the stage in life when his age is a serious matter and should be publicly discussed in total candor.

An Idaho anti-gay propagandist is crowing success on his non-profit political website about how his intervention with a local Hallmark card shop owner lead to a decision not to sell same-sex greeting cards.
The head of the so-called Idaho Values Alliance was apparently set to call for a boycott of the seven Jordan Hallmark stores owned by Philip R. Johnson, until the man disclosed that he had no intention of selling the cards. However, he said he would special order them upon request.
