History was made this afternoon, as the Democratic Party nominated Sen. Barack Obama by acclamation. The roll call vote saw almost all states giving at least some votes to Hillary Clinton, before Illinois passed to New York, where Clinton made the motion to nominate Obama by acclamation. The timing of it all went very well, out of the prime time viewing, but early enough to be captured live on network news.
Highlights tonight include speeches from President Bill Clinton and Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden.
Still, it should not be lost that on THIS DAY, a major political party in the ...
(CNN) — Former NBA star and TNT sports analyst Charles Barkley attended the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday and answered five questions for CNN.com at the CNN Grill.
CNN.com: Why are you here in Denver?
Barkley: I just wanted to be here. I’m just so excited. I never thought in my lifetime we’d have a black man with a legitimate shot of being president.
CNN.com: Are you a Barack Obama supporter?
Barkley: Barack has been a friend of mine for a long time. I met him when I was writing my last book, and he was running for Senate, and I got to know ...
Tonight belonged to Hillary Clinton, and her orange pantsuit, as MSNBC is still going ga-ga over her speech, where she pledged her undivided support for Obama/Biden, and told her supporters to do the same. All-in-all, a spirited introduction of Michelle Obama and a celebrated return of Sen. Ted Kennedy marked a good, albeit not McCain-negative nite for the Dems. I spent much of the night going back and forth from TV coverage on the cable outlets, and Fox News’ live streaming from its “Strategy Room,” moderated by Shep Smith.
In my humble opinion, Smith actually did a decent job of not appearing partisan, and calling bullshit when we got bullshit, either from speakers, guests, or internet questioners, who were invited to email the “Strategy Room” for questions or comments.
The hype began to build early ...
One of the great things about the Olympics are the great profiles viewers get of the athletes themselves. By now, we all think of Michael Phelps’ mom as part of our own family. We know all about the US gymnasts, about Usain Bolt’s improbable rise to become the fastest man alive.
In Australia, where swimming and diving are among its most popular sports, and its athletes are considered the American equivalent of a Kobe Bryant, there’s been plenty of coverage of Matthew Mitcham, the only openly gay male athlete competing in Beijing. Sadly, this profile was never covered by NBC, and ...
