EYE CANDY: Lucien Laviscount (3rd time!)  »  The Mad Professah Lectures
Lucien Laviscount has appeared as Eye Candy twice before (March 24, 2014 and December 14, 2015). Lucien is a model and actor of British and West Indian descent. He can be seen in Season one of Fox Television's Scream Queens and also has a lovely social media presence on Twitter (@ItsLucien) and Instagram (@its_lucien).There's something haunting about his eyes, don't you think? A new meaning for the term "eye candy" indeed! ...

Screen Captures  »  A Life in the Day
One of the nifty features of my new Playstation 4 is the ability to take screen captures during the gameplay. In the olden days, I would set down the game controller, open my iPhone, and snap a sometimes fuzzy shot with its camera. No, all I need to do is to press the "Share" button and voilà! An image saves to the Screen Capture gallery. Of course, the game also automatically snaps a picture when I earn a trophy, but those stills tend to be awkward, blurry, with text and other unwanted items interfering with the image. And I can ...

GAME OF THRONES (S6E04): "The Book of the Stranger"  »  The Mad Professah Lectures
Episode 4 of Season 6 (S6E04) of HBO's Game Of Thrones is titled "The Book of the Stranger." This is a reference to one of the books in the main religious text of Westeros, known as the Seven-Pointed Star, which serves as their "Bible" for their main religion, which is called the Faith of the Seven and is centered around a deity (called "God", of course) that appears in seven forms or aspects: The Father, The Mother, The Maiden, The Crone, The Warrior, The Smith, and The Stranger. The Stranger basically represents Death, so perhaps this episode ...

Strawberries Everywhere  »  A Life in the Day
We drove all the way to Oxnard this morning for the California Strawberry festival. As you might guess, the festival offered every variation on strawberries: funnel cake, beer, wine, salsa, nachos, chimichangas, shortcake, deep fried, and even tamales. Before sampling almost everything, we walked around the grounds, checking out the sponsors, the arts and crafts, and some good music from an L.A.-based group called We the Folk. The wonderful fruity smell of the strawberries kept tempting us, so we grudgingly started tasting things.Personally, I dove into the nachos (cinnamon crisps buried neath a mound of strawberries and whipped cream) ...

2016 FRENCH OPEN: Federer Withdraws, Ending Record Streak Of 65 Grand Slam Appearances  »  The Mad Professah Lectures
Tragedy! The French Open draw was released today and for the first time in 65 major tournaments, Roger Federer's name was nowhere to be seen. The former World #1 is experiencing a 2016 season dramatically impacted by injury and has played very few tournaments. Now this has led to what has seemed unthinkable since the 1999 U.S. Open: a grand slam tournament without Federer. He released a statement on his website explaining his decision to withdraw from Roland Garros 2016:I regret to announce that I have made the decision not to play in this ...

Quickie Book Review: Sharon Needles and the Curse of the Devil's Deck  »  A Life in the Day
by Michael Thomas Ford and Sharon NeedlesAt the DragCon a few weeks ago, any of the drag queens surrounded themselves with items and tchotchkes for purchase: t-shirts emblazoned with catch phrases or faces, glossy photographs, magnets, and other items. One particular booth also sold novellas co-authored by a few of the drag queens, and with me loving books as I do, I took the plunge and purchased both of the books. Sharon Needles and the Curse of the Devil's Deck follows Sharon Needles as she revisits her old boarding school, Miss Chokingbone's Academy for Erstwhile Young Ladies, after the ...

Illegal Cultivation Site Discovered  »  Ron's Log
You want to know what stupid is? Here's stupid: Back in January the City Council approved the Bunch Palms Trail cultivation facility that would be new construction at the corner of Cabot and Two Bunch Palms Trail. It is one of the few cultivation sites that plans to use greenhouses. The owner (or one of the owners maybe) John Van Beek, without putting a shovel in the ground, went down the block and started cultivating at Francisco's Auto Repair on Little Morongo Road completely without ANY permits. It was other legal cultivators who dropped the dime. IOW, the ...
