Reading the headlines over the past week, I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a single agency in the United States government that conservatives haven’t left in worse shape than they found it. I’ve been reading about demoralized government employees, under-resourced departments, and agencies left in shambles after eight years of Republican rule.
A few days after the election I participated in a telephone survey about the outcome. The surveyor, at one point, asked me how I felt about the Bush administration and the congressional Republicans. It has been cloudy since I arrived in Arraial D'Ajuda, but it has been pretty relaxing and nice to be here. I have been staying at Hotel Maitei, which is a place I would highly recommend if you are headed this way.
My dad had suggested the hotel, and so far it has fulfilled all my expectations. The rooms are very cool and chic (in a perfect for the beach sort of way), with amazing views of the beach, hammocks in the balcony, and a jacuzzi with water views. The CRTC (the ones who have made the great telecom-monopoly in canada), have ruled against independent ISPS on the bandwidth throttling case. Bell has been throttling wholesale bandwidth of independent ISPs, even though they should have no right to. (Bell infrastructure was built on tax payers dollars, furthermore, independent ISPs frequently operate their own nodes/routers).
This is just the first step in the big brother of internet. Goodbye to internet anonymity!

Yesterday we reported that Vermont Senator John Campbell, (D-Windsor)will be introducing a bill making gay marriage legal in Vermont in January when the Legislature reconvenes.Today The Rutland Vermont Herald is reporting that Wednesday an angry opponent of the idea called the Statehouse to threaten him over it.The anonymous woman threatened to blow up his house, Campbell said."It is disturbing," Campbell said.
