I was recently sent an e-mail arguing for for drilling in ANWR. This e-mail dovetails very nicely into a recent Republican strategy which can be summed up in a phrase — drilling our way out of the oil crisis. For everyone over the age of 25, we’ve been here before. In late 1970s, as oil prices began to skyrocket, we had a debate in this country over oil and energy independence. Our president at the time was Jimmy Carter. President Carter argued for conservation. It was Carter and a Democratic Congress who pushed for hire fuel standards in cars. ... I have watched a ton of tennis in my day. I have seen all of the greats over the last 30 years. Today’s match will go down as one of the greatest of all time. It doesn’t matter who wins. It is already a classic. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are both playing great tennis. I think that Nadal is playing a little better right now but Federer is holding serve. One break and this match is over.

I recently read the book Pennsylvania Avenue: Profiles In Backroom Power by John Harwood and Gerald F. Seib.
Both authors are Washington political correspondents.
This book is a series of brief chapters about a variety of Washington political players.
Some of those profiled are lifelong insiders. Some came to insider power through unusual channels. Others are looking to change or reform the system in some way or another.
If you are a close follower of politics, you may feel much of the ground covered is familiar. Though I doubt there are many who could claim they are aware of the careers of all the men and women discussed.

My brother is coming down from the north to spend a little time with the family so I won't have time to finish my article about the recent DC gun ban decision. I saw this piece yesterday and I just now have a chance to talk about it. Fox News has done some really bad reporting over the years. They have pushed stories that simply weren’t true. Now, a new low, they have Photoshopped photos to make 2 guys from the New York Times (reporter Jacques Steinberg and editor Steven Reddicliffe ) look uglier. How juvenile!!!

Dolley Madison, the former Dolley Payne, was maybe the first First Lady to be public figure on her own account.
