I ride the subway in DC to work everyday.  I go from Eastern Market in DC to Pentagon City in Virginia, which requires that I transfer trains (from the blue or orange line to the yellow line) at L'Enfant Plaza -- pronounced "lohn-FOHN."  The "t" is silent and the first "n" is not.    Anyway, there is always a mad dash to go up the escalator at L'Enfant to catch the yellow-line train going toward Virginia.  It is a very crowded station with people scrambling in every direction.  And this becomes even more of a problem when you add in the complication ...
