Reverend Peter Mullen, the Chaplain to the London Stock Exchange, is under fire for suggesting that gays be branded with sodomy warning tattoos:
Said Mullen: "It is time that religious believers began to recommend ... discouragements of homosexual practices after the style of warnings on cigarette packets. Let us make it obligatory for homosexuals to have their backsides tattooed with the slogan 'SODOMY CAN SERIOUSLY DAMAGE YOUR HEALTH' and their chins with 'FELLATIO KILLS'."
Mullen also called for the banning of gay pride parades, and wrote a poem mocking the recent blessing of the union of two gay priests by ...

French scientists Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier, who discovered the HIV virus, will split this year's Nobel Prize for medicine with another German scientist Harald zur Hausen, who discovered that the HPV virus facilitates cervical cancer in women.
The Guardian reports: "Barré-Sinoussi and Montagnier, who were both at the Institute Pasteur in Paris in the early 1980s, were the victors in a scientific race to identify the causative agent behind a novel immunodeficiency syndrome that had emerged in 1981. To find out what was causing AIDS, the researchers cultured cells from swollen lymph nodes collected from patients in the early ...
In the age of Amazon, the gay (and generally, the independently owned) bookstore has become all but extinct, but Philadelphia's Giovanni's Room has been kept alive by its proprietor Ed Hermance and former business partner Arleen Olshan, with blood, sweat, and tears.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports:
"Most Philadelphians are unaware that Giovanni's is the second-oldest gay-and-lesbian bookstore in the country, behind only New York's Oscar Wilde Bookshop, launched in 1967. Through six owners, three locations and countless volunteers, Giovanni's has come to represent far more to the city's gay community than a bibliophilic rainbow flag. 'Growing up in the city, it ...
At a rally on Saturday, McCain running mate Sarah Palin misquoted former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright as she played the gender card, referring to her Starbucks mocha cup while attacking women who refuse to support the Republican ticket.
Said Palin: "I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, okay? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"
Albright responded: "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen ...
At the end of September, Jonathan Alter told Keith Olbermann that McCain is lucky nobody had yet mentioned the Keating Five scandal, after which the Arizona Senator did nothing to try to prevent another crisis from happening down the road. It appears McCain's luck has run out in that regard.
The Obama campaign has launched a new site, Keating Economics, where they'll release a 13-minute documentary at noon today meant to draw attention to McCain's involvement in the 1989 scandal.
The move comes after a weekend of smears from the McCain campaign, including one campaign stop rally at ...

Father Geoffrey Farrow of the Saint Paul Newman Center in northeast Fresno received a standing ovation from half his congregation after offering up a sermon about loving thy neighbor and then urging his congregation to vote against Proposition 8, the California measure that would ban same-sex marriage. He also came out to the local ABC news reporter in an interview following his mass.
Said Farrow to his congregation: "In directing the faithful to vote 'yes' on Proposition 8 the California bishops are not merely entering the political arena, they are ignoring the advances and insights of ...
Former New Yorker editor and Talk magazine founder Tina Brown's online behemoth, The Daily Beast, launches today, and certainly has the Huffington Post, Salon, Slate, and New York magazine in its sights.
The site is named after the fictional tabloid in Evelyn Waugh's 1938 novel Scoop.
In a Q&A on the site, Brown is asked if she's doing this because she's jealous of Arianna Huffington. Says Brown: "Not entirely, though I have always followed Arianna's career with the liveliest interest. She is a very old friend, going back to when she was at Cambridge and I was at Oxford. I ...
SNL does it again. You almost want Palin to stick around after the election so Fey can continue this streak. Almost. And Queen Latifah's a welcome addition to just about anything.
