While Atlanta’s gay rugby and flag football teams may resort to winter games like last week’s Miss Ruck & Maul Pageant and Jockboy calendar signings, some local sports actually heat up during the cold months.

The holidays took a dive—into the pool, actually—earlier this month when the Atlanta Rainbow Trout hosted its festive St. Nicks Meet at Georgia Tech’s campus pool in Midtown.
The event returned Dec. 5 after a year’s absence and drew more than 170 participants from across the Southeast. Though it’s hosted by the city’s gay and lesbian swim club, it draws both gay and straight competitors.
A highlight is the Reindeer Relay that features swimmers with oversized holiday ornaments competing against one another.

Oh, how we love those sporty gays. You know the ones—they cycle, play rugby, splash around a pool and camp in the outdoors. And many of them are so sporty and proud that they marched in the Atlanta Pride Parade.
