While I disagree, I can’t fault the Census for not tracking civil-unions or Domestic Partnerships. Well, I could fault them, but an argument could be made that they’re not set up to track that information, or some other nonesense. That said, I’m not sure how they rationalize counting legally-married couples as unmarried, because of DOMA. The census isn’t about giving rights or denying them, they’re about counting crap.
