The Victory Fund reports: "Last night, while most political onlookers were watching the race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in Indiana and North Carolina, a Virginia resident quietly made history as he became the state’s first openly LGBT African-American elected to public office. In his first bid for elected office, Lawrence Webb won a seat on the Falls Church City Council by a margin of 39 votes. He joins two other candidates on the City Council: Nader Baroukh and Robin S. Gardner."
Said Webb: “I am grateful that the citizens of Falls Church have entrusted me with the responsibility ...
Barack Obama got a sweeping win in North Carolina but failed to close the deal, as Clinton prevailed by a small margin in Indiana. That’s right, read into the win what you will, hold it up to the light and examine it for what it’s worth. You have a few more days to dream of that Obama Bloomberg ticket; ain’t gonna happen. Change is gonna come but it ain’t gonna come with John Edwards. When all is said and done Barack Obama will perform the ultimate act of reconciliation, a statesmanlike gesture so grand that it will place Hillary Clinton ...
Two points.
That’s Hillary Clinton’s margin of victory in Indiana, where pundits, pollsters and press thought the Senator would surely trounce Barack Obama for the Democratic primary.
Obama, however, surprised us all by securing a projected 49% of the vote, while soaring ahead in North Carolina, where he took a whopping - and telling - 56% of the vote. Clinton, meanwhile, only grabbed 42% of the Tar Heel State, giving Obama a fourteen point margin of victory.
And a considerable delegate boost: at least ninety-four.
So, where do the Democratic presidential candidates go from here? Well, the next primaries, ...
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton continue their fight for the Democratic nomination to Indiana and North Carolina tomorrow. The latest polls have Obama up by an average of 6.5 points in North Carolina and Clinton up by an average of 4.6 points in Indiana.Over the weekend the big news was that Obama won the Guam caucuses by a mere 7 (count 'em, folks!) votes out of nearly 4500 cast, and will thus pick up 2 superdelegates (they split Guam's 4 eleected delegates evenly).Today, Obama picked up 3 more super-delegates. ...
Hillary Clinton seems poised to blow Barack Obama out of the electoral water.
The Senator’s campaign today confirmed a report that they plan to use their pals on the party’s Rules and Bylaws Committee to validate Michigan and Florida’s previously invalidated primary counts. Those state weren’t meant to count because they broke rank and held their primaries early.
Both Clinton and Obama previously wagged their finger at those states, and Obama even yanked his name from the Michigan ballot. Now that she’s down, however, Mrs. Clinton’s hoping her allies can push her over the edge:
With at least 50 percent ...
Gov. Mike Easley of North Carolina is under fire for using the word “pansy”, which has caused a public outcry by gay rights groups.
What???
He used the word upon announcing his support for Hillary Clinton, stating that he felt Clinton made Rocky Bolboa “look like a pansy.”
The character of Rocky is an American icon of strength and endurance, with an undefeated spirit. All the Governor was saying is that Hillary is even stronger than Rocky. I truly don’t believe it was a homophobic remark in any shape or form.
But gay rights groups argue that “pansy” is a word for gay people, ...
I have the distinct pleasure of knowing Tucson’s own Amanda Simpson. She is not only a truly amazing, dynamic woman, but she’s a genuine trailblazer as well. She’s as been a local activist and former member of the City of Tucson Commission on GLBT Issues, and she was the first transgender nominee to run for the Arizona House of Representatives.
So I was tickled pink to learn that she was selected to be an at-large delegate to this year’s Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. She will be there as a delegate for Sen. Hillary Clinton, and she “will ...
