Michelle Obama spoke at an 'LGBT Reception' fundraiser at the home of CAA managing partner Bryan Lourd and his partner Bruce Bozzi Wednesday night (photo not from event).
From Patrick Range McDonald's pool report:
"Approximately 300 donors attended the fund raiser, which took place in the wealthy, Los Angeles neighborhood of Holmby Hills. Minimum contribution for a guest was $1,000 to get through the door. Supporters who raised $25,000 were given access to a VIP room, where Obama met with them and briefly spoke. All money went to the Obama Victory Fund. Some of the entertainment industry figures who attended the ...
Last week Towleroad was at the Democratic National Convention in Denver as one of two LGBT credentialed blogs (something we received some flak for). While the week was hectic and two people can only cover so much, I hope that Corey Johnson and I were able to provide some interesting LGBT-related content and interviews with folks at the convention you might not have seen in the mainstream press. Here are some of the highlights:
Barack Obama accepts nomination before 84,000 in Denver.

…The way in which the words ‘gay’ or ’sexual orientation’ are mentioned by every keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention. Michelle Obama, Hilary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Al Gore… Nothing from Joe Biden, the Catholic who scores well with gay rights activists.
So Barak over to you.
I know there are differences on same-sex marriage, but surely we can agree that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters deserve to visit the person they love in the hospital and to live lives free of discrimination.
Yup in his acceptance speech in what is going to be the tightest and maybe ugliest ...
Before heading over to the Pepsi Center on Tuesday we stopped by the luncheon for LGBT Delegates Hosted by Rep. Barney Frank, with Rep. Tammy Baldwin, the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund and Human Rights Campaign.
But the big event of the luncheon was an unscheduled appearance by Michelle Obama. I got a nice surprise when, after her speech, she stepped down and walked over to some of us and I was able to shake the hand of this impressive woman.
I also finally had a chance to meet Pam Spaulding of the excellent blog Pam's House Blend on ...
So, I flew into Denver yesterday, after not bothering to go to bed Saturday night, because my flight was at 6:06 a.m. and the shuttle to Dulles picked me up at 3:29 a.m. Besides, I wasn’t able to pack until after the kids went to bed. But then I wanted to help the hubby fold the laundry, and wanted to load and run the dishwasher, since I was leaving him on his own with the kids to go off and witness history. Oh yeah, and blog about it.
The problem is, my first day at the convention, I didn’t really see ...
While speechs by Senator Ted Kennedy and Michelle Obama were, correctly, the headlining events from yesterday’s session of the Democratic National Convention, remarks by former Republican U.S. Representative Jim Leach of Iowa ( painting above) also merit attention.
Mr. Leach discussed why he was endorsing the Democratic candidate in 2008 and provided something of a history lesson as well. From Mr. Leach you got sense of someone truly concerned for his country rather than the personal anger and score-settling that drives Joe Lieberman away from the Democratic Party.
Mr. Leach speaks here of a Republican Party that lost its way with the reckless invasion of Iraq, and the prospect of a strong new direction for America at home ...
Have you been watching the Democratic National Convention on television? If so, you’ve already seen more of it than I have, I’m in Denver for the supposed purpose of blogging about the convention. (More on that later.) So, what are your thoughts? Can you tell m what I missed. I’m hoping to have time to watch Edward Kennedy’s and Michelle Obama’s speeches via YouTube, if I can find (a) the time and (b) a reliable wifi connection.
But seriously, what did I miss yesterday?
