Last Monday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was interviewed by Bill O'Reilly on Fox News. O'Reilly showed video footage from California, of protests after passage of a referendum to revoke court approval of gay marriage in that state. The focus was on an elderly woman who had a large cross stripped from her hands after she apparently waded into a crowd of demonstrators. Said the former Georgia congressman: "I think there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, is prepared to ...
Bill O'Reilly asking Newt what he thought about the "out of control" movement and how Newt assessed that. Newt's response was that it was fascism and that it is a threat to traditional marriage. Here comes sister, Candace Gingrich. She wrote an open letter to her brother on The Huffington Post: Dear Newt,I recently had the displeasure of watching you bash the protestors of the Prop 8 marriage ban to Bill O'Reilly on FOX News. I must say, after years of watching you build your career by stirring up the fears and prejudices of the far right, I feel compelled ...
Here are some of the people writing about some of the stuff I wish I had time to write about, for November 21st through November 25th:
Election Day fell short - These bans represent the tyranny of the majority, which our Founding Fathers tried hard to prevent. Democracy never intended for a simple majority of the people to take away the fundamental rights of the minority. A cornerstone of democracy is found in the belief that our Constitution, and not our contempt, should be the driving force insuring equality for all.
Whether it's eating the last cookie, skipping out on chores, or trivializing one's life as a "lifestyle" and writing off the idea that they should be equal as part of some sort of "radical agenda," brothers and sisters sometimes have squabbles. For insight into the first two kinds of battles, go down to any local daycare and chat with a couple of six-year-olds. For insight into the third kind of sibling disagreement, you can head over to Huffington Post to read what Newt's lesbian sister...
...Candace has to say about some of her uber-conserative brother's recent anti-gay thoughts:
"In other words, stop ...
It isn't too hard to imagine that Candace and Newt Gingrich don't get along given their differences in philosophy and lifestyle. But have you read this? It's an open letter that she just posted to him at The Huffington Post earlier today. It's scathing. Makes you wonder how two siblings could be so different. My sister and I will certainly never be accused of being two peas in a pod, but thankfully we do get along a little better than these two.I don't blame her for calling him out - and, for obvious reasons, I do side with her ...
By Newt Gingrich, no less. So now, in addition to keeping the 'agenda' nicely typed and up to date, I've got to wear a black shirt and jackboots while nailing it to the doors of churches. That's gonna make me sweat like a bitch. ...
Former Massachusetts Governor and presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has written an op-ed in the New York Times about the auto industry. Gov. Romney is uniquely qualified to comment on the industry…not only due to his personal knowledge of the business but also because his father was the president of American Motors. I was expecting, then, something that was thoughtful and insightful; unfortunately, this article was the same old Republican talking points. It could have been written by Newt Gingrich or Rush Limbaugh.
In a little less than 900 words, Gov. Romney summed up the problems of the auto industry ...
