Kate McGarrigle, the singer-songwriter who with her older sister Anna became iconic on the Canadian folk scene in the 1970s, died Monday of clear-cell sarcoma at home in Montreal. She was 63. In the McGarrigle Sisters' heyday, NY Times music critic John Rockwell wrote that “their voices have a plaintive allure full of light vibrato and husky emotionalism, and they blend together exquisitely in harmonies.
